Start composting now in a simple way

The necessary steps for a natural compost.

Composting may seem a difficult operation, but in reality it is not. To set it up, just create a dedicated space and adding organic material, a little at a time. As soon as you see the first results, you will realize that it is really worth.

This is what you need to know to get started to compost.
The first thing to do is to choose a place. For a good result, the ideal location it must be, shady and located near a water source. In case you can't find enough shade, you can think of creating a DIY composter and subsequently to add some water on the ground (it is recommended not to leave the compost bin open to avoid are attracted pests in some locations).

Now you can move on to create the pile. We will have to add about 3 parts brown materials to 1 part green materials. As brown materials are meant dead leaves and plants, shredded paper or cardboard, straw, wood chips, and sawdust, that are high in carbon. Instead, the green materials include grass clippings, coffee grounds, fruit and vegetable scraps, and most kitchen waste, that are high in nitrogen.

This is the best way for the compound to thrive, in fact, reach a good balance between carbon to nitrogen will be fundamental for the pile, that will have all what it needs to decompose quickly.
Surely, you'll should avoid to add too much high nitrogen material, anything to your pile that will attract pests or that is treated with harmful chemicals. Even if it may seem useless, it is always good to remember not to add absolutely: metal, glass, or plastic of any sort in your compost, since those won’t be breaking down anytime soon.

Another point to remember, concerns microorganisms that live into composter. They need moisture to do good their work, so you’ll need to keep the compost moist. If the climate is particularly dry, you can occasionally water the compost, but without drenching the pile.

It's good to turn the pile from time to time to ventilate it, so as to avoid unpleasant smell and speed up the breakdown of composting materials.

At this point you will just have to wait for the compost to mature. Everything will depend on what you put in the compost, how finely you chopped the material and the type of pile. You will know that the compost will be ready when it is dark, crumbly and even.

Once this process is complete, you can use the compost in a many ways, for example you can put it in raised flowerbeds or planters, to feed the perennial plants.

If you necessity to compost at home, the solution can be a small compost bin that does its job taking up little space.
